2nd gen. Symon Smith - b. 1573 Stepney, Surrey, England / d. 3 Oct 1665 Stepney, Surrey, England / m. Martha Oldfield, 1610 England (b. 1575 London, Middlesex, England / d. 1666 Stepney, Surrey, England / dau. of
Roger Oldfield & Thomasine Moore)

Symon's will dated 3 Oct 1665 and proved 2 Jan 1666 identifies Symon Smith as "of Stepney", former citizen and merchant of London, age 82. Identifies wife as Martha Oldfield, daughter of Mrs. Thomasine Oldfield, deceased, and states they have been married 55 years. A legacy is left to "my cousin" Judith Toozer (sic: Tozier or Tozer), wife of Richard Tozer and daughter of Symon's son Thomas Smith, "now at New England".

Their son Thomas was born in England and probably married there as well before coming to the colonies. His wife was Margaret Clark. Their daughter Judith married Richard Tozier May 3, 1656 in Boston, MA and they settled in Salmon Falls, ME. (Boston Vital Stats Records)

Martha's parents were Roger OLDFIELD and Thomasine MOORE of London. The will of Thomasine OLDFIELD, though the surname is spelled "OWFIELD" PROVED 9 Nov 1638 which refers to her son Thomas SMITH and granddaughter Elizabeth SMITH. The will does not say that Thomas is in New England at that time, which was customary if heirs were not in England.
